Palin: The Hypocrisy Clock Goes Tic-Tock

Now this is embarrassing. It seems that John McCain's soulmate has also made his anti-earmark "pork list".

Three times in recent years, McCain's catalogs of "objectionable" spending have included earmarks for this small Alaska town, requested by its mayor at the time -- Sarah Palin.

Oops. But hey, it's not like Palin was the first Wasilla mayor to go after federal money, right?

Wasilla had received few if any earmarks before Palin became mayor. She actively sought federal funds -- a campaign that began to pay off only after she hired a lobbyist with close ties to Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), who long controlled federal spending as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He made funneling money to Alaska his hallmark.

Yeah, she's quite the anti-pork, anti-lobbyist maverick. It's too bad the McCain campaign is now refusing to answer questions about the vetting process because it would be nice to know if they knew about this.

Another Smear Debunked

More bullshit from the right has surfaced this week as small minded conservative blowhards have been blowing up the blogosphere with some bullshit about how Obama removed the flag from the tail of the plane he is leasing for his campaign. Why did he have such a thing get done? Is it because he is dangerous and not patriotic and not in love with his country?

THE REAL REASON:
The plane is being leased from a company called "North American Airlines" and the "flag" on the tail of the plane that was removed is THE COMPANY'S REGISTERED TRADEMARK. So, the reason the "flag" design was removed is because it is THE REGISTERED TRADEMARK OF NORTH AMERICAN AIRLINES! The flag next to the plane's tail number is still there in plain sight....

So all you close minded small thinking conservative assholes can shut the fuck up!!

Oh, speaking of campaign aircraft, I don't even see a flag or anything resembling a flag or the colors that are on the U.S. Flag ANYWHERE on McCain's plane!!!???
And since when are an aqua-ish blue, gold, and white patriotic colors? Ah... McCain must be colorblind in his old age.

Obama is in Berlin, so McCain Visits a German Village.... German Village, OHIO

So, Barack Obama was in Germany today giving a speech in Berlin, so it was only right that John McCain speak to people in a similar venue........... Schmidt's Sausage House, a German restaurant in GERMAN VILLAGE, OHIO....

Hmm... So, if Obama goes to Mexico I guess McCain will go to a Taco Bell in, oh, Kalamazoo, Michigan perhaps???

McCain Crying Over Attention on Obama in Iraq

John McCain and his campaign aides are frosted at the media for giving so much attention to Barack Obama's overseas trip, and they accuse reporters of being in love with the Democratic candidate. Apparently no one told them that, as Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz once advised, you should never complain about your problems, because most people don't care, and the rest are happy you have them.

Whining is not a reassuring habit in a political candidate. One thing all presidents and presidential candidates have in common is that sometimes the press coverage won't go their way. Stoic indifference is the best way to respond. If McCain gets in a snit over what The Washington Post does, how will he react when he has to deal with truly aggravating adversaries, like Kim Jong Il?

Besides, it's his own fault that Obama is getting so much attention. For weeks, McCain has been practically taunting his opponent into visiting Iraq--making it that much more newsworthy when Obama actually did.

McCain thought it was important for Obama to see the war firsthand. Now the media is treating the trip as important, and McCain acts as though they shouldn't.

The Arizona senator may be especially resentful because, in past campaigns, he was seen as the media darling--and even jokingly referred to reporters as "my base." But given that experience, he should know that if the press is treating Obama favorably now, it won't last.

Rest assured, if Obama makes a major gaffe while abroad, the media will swarm like piranhas around it, and McCain will be grateful for the coverage. We in the journalism business are like what Churchill said of the Germans: Always at your feet or at your throat.

Ambitious McCain Already Redrawing Middle East

Here's John McCain on Good Morning America, discussing the situation in Afghanistan and noting that it's going to be a "very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq-Pakistan border." Unfortunately, as others were quick to point out, the border between Iraq and Pakistan is actually what the rest of us call Iran, which puts a good thousand or so miles between those two nations. Still, I'm not inclined to be too hard on the man; my grandpa could barely find Pakistan on a map, and McCain is almost as old as him.

At a town hall in Fresno, CA, McCain admitted that the offshore drilling proposal he unveiled last week would probably have mostly "psychological" benefits, NBC/NJ’s Adam Aigner-Treworgy notes. "Even though it may take some years, the fact that we are exploiting those reserves would have psychological impact that I think is beneficial."


In other words, "It won't do shit for you, but it'll make you feel like something is being done." That's not beneficial. In fact, it's the exact opposite of beneficial.

1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.¹

News from the White House: George Bush is not on the ticket

An important announcement from the White House: George Bush is not, repeat, not running for President in 2008. Or as Dana Perino put it:

But remember this election is -- the President is not on the ticket.

But remember, he's not on the ticket.

But again, President Bush isn't on the ticket.

Well, okay, then, no, I'm not -- I'm seeking nothing but to tell you that the President is not on the ticket...

And so begins the tightrope walk we can expect for the next six months. Assurances that Bush is "fully committed, 100 percent committed, to making sure that John McCain is elected to be the next President," while doing everything they can to put distance between John McCain and George Bush. When questioned (six times) on whether Bush and McCain would appear in public together, the best Perino could do was to say, "stay tuned," and to remind reporters that:

President Bush is a formidable campaign fundraiser, as has been reported over the years, and I expect that he'll continue to be.

So, how is that working out?

A Tuesday fundraiser headlined by President Bush for U.S. Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign is being moved out of the Phoenix Convention Center.

Sources familiar with the situation said the Bush-McCain event was not selling enough tickets to fill the Convention Center space, and that there were concerns about more anti-war protesters showing up outside the venue than attending the fundraiser inside.

With the need for repeated reminders that George Bush is not on the ticket, dodging questions about public appearances and failing fundraisers, John McCain is learning that running to carry out the third term of the most unpopular president in history is hard work.

Krauthammer: Dishonest Hypocrite

When you consider the competition Charles Krauthammer was up against, penning the most dishonest op-ed in today's Washington Post was no mean feat, but he did it.

It's amazing really. In an attempt to make the case that Barack Obama's "character and cultural attitudes" somehow disqualify him from the presidency, Krauthammer distorts (Jeremiah Wright as an inciter of racial hatred), uses code words (jihad and tribal), lies (political career "launched" in William Ayers home), and projects ("self-congratulatory fatuousness"), which of course says quite a lot about Krauthammer's own character and cultural attitudes, not to mention his journalistic ethics.

But if Krauthammer wants to pretend that he's concerned about "the character and beliefs of a man who would be president," perhaps he can use his national platform to delve into the character and beliefs of John McCain. A few potential areas of concern:

• McCain seeking out and embracing endorsements from "men of God" who accuses the Catholic Church of conspiring with Hitler, who believe that Hurricane Katrina was a just punishment for the people of New Orleans, and who believe that our nation's destiny is to destroy the "false religion" of Islam. Kind of trumps what Reverend Wright had to say, doesn't it?
• McCain, who in his official capacity as a Senator, protected his Republican brethren from being exposed in the Jack Abramoff scandal.
• McCain's anger management issues that have led to his trying to have women fired for crossing him and spewing profanities at colleagues who disagree with him. A temper so vile that Republican Senator Thad Cochran once said that the thought of McCain as President "sends a cold chill down my spine."
• McCain admitting to multiple affairs while married to his first wife, finally divorcing her to marry his current, millionaire wife who is 18 years his junior, which transformed him from a run of the mill adulterer into a cradle-robbing gigolo.

Any character issues there that you want to talk about, Chuck? I didn't think so.

Thrown Under The Levee by McCain

Still pretending that a vote for him isn't a vote for George Bush's third term, yesterday John McCain threw Bush under the bus levee:

John McCain toured still hurricane-damaged areas of New Orleans and declared that if the disaster had happened on his watch, he would have immediately landed his plane at the nearest Air Force base.

He offered a pledge Thursday to New Orleans residents that their situation will not be forgotten and that such a botched disaster response will never happen again.

And here is Mr. McCain, on the day New Orleans was drowning, urging George Bush to get to the nearest Air Force base and start handling things:

McCain Booed at MLK Speech

Senator John McCain, "who says he will court the African-American vote this year and campaign in places Republicans often shun," spoke in Memphis on Friday to mark the 40th anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

But his speech was met with boos and interruptions from many in the audience, as he apologized for repeatedly opposing the creation of a holiday to celebrate King's legacy.

McCain voted against the creation of a holiday honoring King in 1983, a vote which was supported by a large number of Republicans. McCain claimed this week that he was largely unaware on the importance of King's work at the time, due to his Vietnam-era service overseas. Speaking on Thursday to reporters, he explained that his conversion occurred around 1990:

"I voted in my...first year in Congress against it and then I began to learn and I studied and people talked to me. And I not only supported it but I fought very hard in my home state of Arizona for recognition against a governor who was of my own party."

But McCain's voting record since 1990 doesn't support this explanation. In addition to voting to oppose a state holiday in 1987 (which he later supported) and a federal holiday in 1989, McCain voted in 1994 to cut funding for the commission that promoted King's holiday.
